Lately, JR introduced many luxurious trains. Sometimes dubbed as a “5-star hotel in the train”, they do offer comfortable and fancy travel experience.
Twilight Express Mizukaze is one of such luxury cruise train that debut in June 2017. The Suite of this train features a bathtub, private lounge, and bedroom, and there will be live music performance. Publicized as a “5-star hotel in the train”, its interior showcases the regions’ traditional crafts and arts.
The cruise starts and ends in Kyoto. As seen in the map below, It will be a great travel option if you are looking for a short trip out of Kyoto. The problem is, the ticket is on lottery – because it is very popular. It’s currently accepting the application to purchase the tickets. The deadline is 31 May, 2017.
The fare? A one night trip is from 280,000 yen p/p and two nights trip is from 520,000 yen p/p. The price is all inclusive of gourmet meals, drink, and sightseeing transportation. Considering the exclusive nature of the trip, and the kind of service, and meals and drink served on the train, it is an understandable price. It’s like a first class airplane trip. (yes, there is a waiting lounge dedicated for the guests of Mizukaze.)
By the way, the theme song for the train is composed by that famous Japanese violinist (Taro Hakase) who accompanied Celine Dion for “To Love You More”.
