Plum flowers

Before the cherry blossom season begins in Japan, there comes the season for plum flowers. Though it is not as famous as cherry blossoms, they are equally beautiful and much loved by Japanese. Plum flowers have a subtle scent that is so pleasant and calming, and just like cherry trees, there are many different kinds of plum trees. The photo is one of such, called “Shidare-Ume”.

If you want to see this beautiful plum flowers en mass, you need to visit Japan early March. There is a park in Mie prefecture that is famous for Shidare-Ume. It hosts a Ume flower festival, starting from mid Feb until the end of March, and the plum flowers will be lit up during the night viewing period.
